Template and Sample Thank You Letter /Interview Follow Up Letter...

Hi Guys! I am giving here the sample Follow Up letter/Thank You Letter after Interviewing You for a Residency position....

The Template /Format of a Thank You /Follow Up Letter after Interview...(Use this a guide only dont copy it ;-) )

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name:

Use the first paragraph to thank the interviewer for taking the time to meet with you. Mention your interest in the Program and how enthusiastic you are about it.

The second paragraph of your follow up letter should include the reasons why you are an excellent candidate for that Residency position. List specific skills that relate to the residency position you interviewed for. The more detailed you are, the more the interviewer will know about your qualification which he might not have noticed.

The third paragraph can be used to mention anything that you didn't bring up at the interview that you'd like the PD to know.U may add Updates of ur Examinations/ECFMG Certification status and Ranking . Speaking abt ranking is not a NRMP violation.
U can ask abt Prematch Here after knowing their policies(asking PD directly/reading on their website) stating that u r having the utmost interest in that program...
Closing sentence shud include that you are looking forward to hearing from him or her soon

Here is a Sample Letter…

Dear Dr. XYZ:

Thank you for the courtesies extended to me during my interview yesterday. Your program's atmosphere was inviting and warm, despite of unusually cold weather. I appreciate the way you made me feel at ease with informal conversation about the program as well as lifestyle in ******(City Name). I especially enjoyed learning about research opportunities at the program.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk to me about your ***** Program and the responsibilities of a resident. I appreciate your time and consideration in interviewing me for this position.

I liked a lot rounds with ward team directed by Dr. ******. His/Her friendly and non-pressing style lets residents think and express their thoughts freely.
I was particularly impressed by the satisfaction of the current residents with the program. I feel like I definitely can fit into the team.
I strongly believe that I would be an excellent trainee. I really think that the program may benefit from my experience. whatever I could have missed prior to that, I will catch up by hard work.

I hope to successfully match with your program. Since it was the best of all the interviews I’ve attended, and ur program being topmost among my choices, I can definitely say that I rank your program high. But seriously, I will give you an update on my ranking in January. I am sure that the program will be at the top of my list.

It's better to send a Thank You letter To the Program Co-ordinator too for helping you in Selecting you for an interview,scheduling/Rescheduling,Explaining Program requirements ,etc.,

some ppl even write letters to every one they met (including residents ;-P ) >.. Of course Who Knows ? It may help by a word of mouth from PD's LIKED Persons about us ;-)

I will Update this with Few more sample letters in near future...

U r rt Dr D We shudnt mention numbers anywhere in ranking.... Thats what happened with one college which sent a ROL to its choice of candidates and got Axed by NRMP...See this In NRMP's WOrds
"In the 2007 Main Residency Match, the Otolaryngology program at the University of North Carolina Hsopitals asked applicants to provide written documentation about their rank order lists. Section 6.0 of the Match Participation Agreement for Applicants and Programs prohibits applicants and programs from requesting ranking information during the application process."
"The NRMP has identified the Otolaryngology program as a match violator in the Registration, Ranking, and Results (R3) System until 07/11/2009"

HI Pavan. Your blogs are definitely more extensive and informative than mine.
Let's come to NRMP violation. I have read somewhere that informing a program that you will rank it number one is a violation. Not sure though. But informing that you will rank it "high" is not a violation. Guess I am right. Got to check it up.
