How much chance for low 90 score for IMG needed visa to match in Im

I ve got score in step1 90 and step 2 92.About to take CS.
Could anyone please kindly give me an opinion how much chance I have to match IM as an IMG needed J1 or H1 visa.

And also is there anyway to get observership or US clinical experience even a paid one?

Thank you

Well, I have seen people got matched with 75/75 in Neurology and I have seen guys unable to match with scores like yours. I am telling this cuz I was living in a half-way house for lots of people who were in between there residencies.

I can tell you about this guy who scored 75 in both the steps that he is an incredible person, initially he was so depressed but but quickly he put aside all the depressive feelings, and started looking for some research but unable to find any then he started the research on his own reading tons of research about a topic of is interest and compiled in his personal website and during this time he learned how to build a website etc, plus on forum like this he made himself available to whole world to ask any questions etc plus he started volunteering usmle tuitions etc. I was his roommate and quickly became so annoyed by his 25 hour work day, I also noticed during this time he became a scholar and it feels like you are around a guy who is teaching in a med school for few years. Long story short he got only one interview call and I was the one who gave him the ride and remember that day he was so exited and he was telling getting an interview is more than enough and he thought he was not going to get residency this is just fun things to play with ..........................

BUT when I saw him in the evening he told me they are were so impressed in the research that he did by himself on stroke although this research was not conducted in any lab, it was more of a literary research more of an encyclopedia. Now he was depressed again since they gave him an indication about matching him or possible pre-match since they asked will he be able to match in prelim. In the end he was able got his dream. This 75 guy is also the inspiration behind my interest in medicine.

I think you are in a real good shape as far as your score is concern, but some how you are full of anxiety :), with this long five years of med school you need to rediscover yourself and be a warrior try to sell yourself without. Think about a used car dealer how he talk about 100K mile as a brand new just like zero mile etc. :)

Beside this I know someone who's score was 99 + 98 and got internship in top 10 med school at the end of his internship professor (Leading Physician) refused to gave him LOR, and told him just give him email or fax of the program where he is apply he will directly send to them.............well when I came to know I told him you have missed the opportunity they will not even going to do that ............ I involved me since I know someone up high to find out (although I had an idea about it) I came to know that 'this guy was the most stinky, and come to work in dirty cloths ...basically personal hygiene was poor and other intern complained about it as well. Plus he was very condescending. I think he got almost 10 interview and didn't match. He shared one of his interview experience by telling me they invited him at 7:00 AM after meeting a PGY II they let him wait till about 9:45 AM and made him real angry and they noticed his anger when finally he had to meet the team. I told him right away you are not going to here from them.

I think the question you asked is the most popular question in every forum that you go to. I have stories of almost 50 plus doctors who were in between steps and math cuz this place was very popular for them to study and then passed the info for other people and it was great for me i was getting good roommates one after other. Personality, communication, and how compassionate you are towards your profession and to people who will be around you. Please don't take me wrong this is my observations and wanted to share with you. I still need to go through this process after few years. At least we have some concrete information that we can debate about and to here from everyone of you who will read this thread.

If you need the name, and the contact info of the people that I am talking about then please send me a private email I will give to you they will be more then happy to discuss with you their experience. I hope so.

More and more you will ask questions like this more distance you create between you and your career goals.

Thank you,

great post Salman! I think its the scores that would get you the interviews but the beauty within is the one that gets you the job!

i won't consider your scores to be low to begin with. first thing for you to do is to get comfortable with your scores. if you have not gotten any interviews, that is not because of your scores, but because no one knows you in this country. make some contacts and you will be fine.

regarding observership, there are a lot of paid observership offerings.. just dig a little- look at the websites, call the PCs, set up an appointment with the faculties. prefer doing an observership in a university hospital than a community hospital than a private setup - the recommendation weight decreases in the same order.

your observership should make you some friends in the program. chances are you'll end up doing residency in the same program you've observed. good luck!

GI: well said: scores will earn you an interview, beauty within will earn you a job!!
