B1/B2 visa for attending a conference

Yes, u can get B1/B2 for attending a conference in USA. The documents required are the same as in any other case for B1/B2 visa. You need to show the proof of what kind of conference u are going to attend, the invitation from the organisers and your purpose for attending it. The "purpose" for attending can be a difficult point to convince the VO. As generally professors and lecturers are attending conferences, and i assume u r not any ! But, if you have a special invite to the conference than its good for you. Also, i don't think so anyone can get more than 1 or 3 month visa for a conference !
Applying for visa on Step 2 CS basis will be, of course a better option.

Hi Ashish, I have not seen anybody applying for a conference visa. But I have encouraged others to try different options as possible. This is one of the good options. Anyways, nothing is guaranteed. The advantage is that you need not gamble on CS fees for a US visa. Please keep us posted about the outcome. All the very best for your interview.
