Is ECFMG certification reqd to call your clinical experience as - externship
I am doing an externship at a private clinic. Its a complete hands on USCE under supervision. I would have it on my LOR as Externship. But I dont yet have my ECFMG certification. I will have it by the end of my externship but my CS results are awaited, so dont have it now. So is it OK to call it externship on my CV and my LORs or would the program directors be raising a doubt as to how do you call it as an externship without having ECFMG certification? The physicians whom I am doing my hands on USCE under are ok with my doing examinations under them as well as ok with calling it externship. But I am worried whether PDs are OK with the term - externship for someone who doesnt have a certification for the first 2 out of 3 months of my USCE.

I dont think there are any issues for externship without ECFMG certificate. You are worrying too much.

I agree with Dr. D. you are thinking too much....an externship has no definition in regards to ECFMG certificate. externship = observership + hands on experience.
ECFMG certificate is OPTIONAL requirement based on whoever is offering you the position ( it just happens that many hospitals or uni affiliated places require it before taking you under their wing)

Just was lucky to send the CV to a person who offers one - liked my CV (had research background in a field similar to his etc.). He took a phone interview. Bottomline- I was plain Lucky
